인디언에게 뭔가 배울게 있다라고 생각이 들었다. 아니 우리들에게 던지는 메시지도 있다. 아마도 기우제 지내다 편이 갈라졌으거라는 생각도 든다. 추장의 역할이 크리라 본다. 그 기다림을 모두가 인내로 견뎌야 하기 때문이다.

◇ 암호 해독

​

1943년 미국군은 진주만 공습의 핵심인물이었던 야마모토 사령관이 부대시찰을 위해 순회비행을 할 예정이라는 암호를 해독해냈다.

​

미국군은 즉시 요격기를 보냈고 야마모토가 탄 비행기는 격추되었다.

​

태평양 전쟁에서 미국군은 일본군의 암호를 해독 할 수 있었지만, 일본군은 끝까지 미국군의 암호를 해독하지 못했다.

​

그 이유는 수 천 명의 나바호 인디언들만 쓰는 나바호 언어를 미국군 함대의 통신언어로 사용했기 때문이다.

​

​

인디언 하니 전쟁때 자기들만의 언어로 암호를 통해 승리에 기여한 영화도 본 기억이 난다. 소수 인원이지만 창의적으로 생각하고 실행한 의도가 그리고 허가한 지휘관이 있어 부럽다. 문화는 하루 아침에 이루어지지 않는다. 오랜 성숙이 필요하다.

마지막은 인디언의 격언으로 마무리 하고자 한다.

어떤 말을 만 번 이상 되풀이하면, 반드시 미래에 그 일이 이루어진다.

◇ 사이후이 (死而後已)

삼국지에서 제갈량이 전쟁터에 나가며 올린 후출사표 가운데 가장 유명한 구절로 죽고 나서야 내 임무가 끝난다는 결연한 의지를 담고 있는 글이다.

鞠躬盡瘁 死而後已

국궁진췌 사이후이

이 몸 엎드려 최선을 다하여 전장에 나아갈 것이며, 그 임무는 죽고 나서야 끝날 것이다.

士不可以不弘毅(사불가이불홍의) 

선비는 자신의 뜻을 굳세게 지켜나가는 사람이다.

任重而道遠(임중이도원)

맡겨진 임무는 막중하고 가야할 길은 멀다!

仁以爲己任 不亦重乎

인이위기임 불역중호

세상을 사랑으로 가득 차게 만들어야 하니 또한 막중한 임무가 아니던가.

死而後已 不亦遠乎

사이후이 불역원호

죽어서야 그 임무에서 벗어날 수 있으니 얼마나 먼 길이던가.

소인은 일을 이루려는 사람이고 대인은 뜻을 이루려는 사람이다.

자신이 가지고 있는 뜻을 세우고 그 뜻을 이루려고 노력하는 것이 진정 리더의 모습이다.
