그런데 어느 날 그 칸쵸가 언제부터인가 새우깡의 심부름을 하고 있었다.

이상하게 생각한 빼빼로가 그 이유를 칸쵸에게 물었다.

그러자 칸쵸가 조심스레 말했다.

"야. 조용히 해~ !! 새우깡은 온 몸에 칼자국이야.

위에 해당하는 과자를 먹으면 입가에 미소가 나온다. 과자를 이렇게 재미있게 표현하다니...

◇ 침과대단(枕戈待旦)

​

창을 베고 자면서 아침을 기다린다. 즉, 항상 전투태세를 갖추고 있는 군인의 자세를 표현.

- 진서(晉書) 유곤전(劉琨傳)

​

남북조시대의 진나라 때 유곤과 조적은 모두 성격이 활달하고 의협(義俠)을 중시하는 지사(志士)들이었다.

​

유곤과 조적은 함께 밤 늦도록 국가의 형세를 논하였고, 한밤중에 닭 울음소리를 경계 삼아(당시에는 닭이 밤에 우는 것을 불길한 징조로 여겼다) 무술을 연마하였다.

​

나중에 유곤은 조적이 조정에 중용되어 외적을 물리치는 공을 세웠다는 소식을 듣곤 유곤은 친구에게 편지를 썼다.

​

"나는 창을 베개 삼아 잠을 자며 아침이 되기를 기다리면서 오랑캐 무리를 몰아내는 데 뜻을 두었으며, 늘 조적 선생이 나보다 먼저 공을 세우게 될까 염려하였다."

吾枕戈待旦 志枭逆虏

오침과대단, 지효역로

나는 단단히 기다렸고, 뜻을 굽히지 않았으며

常恐祖生先吾著鞭

상공조생선오저편

선조들을 늘 공경하였고 나에게 엄히 채찍질하였다.

​

먼저 공을 세우는 것을 비유하는 선착편(先着鞭)이라는 고사성어도 여기서 유래되었다.

​

지금 이 순간에도 불철주야 대비태세에 임하는 장병에 고마움을 느낀다. 누군가 말한다. 수의를 입고 지내는 이들이 지금 이 순간에도 국가를 지키고 있다고...

​

​

'재능이 칼이라면, 겸손은 그 재능을 보호하는 칼집'이라는 말이 있다.

​

겸손이 칼집 인 이유는 재능이 제 기능을 발휘할수 있도록 남의 시기와 질투를 미리 막아주기 때문이다. 겸손의 자리에 교만이 앉는 순간 몰락의 길로 들어서게 된다.

​

그리고 칼은 칼집에 있어야 안전하다고...
