Popcorn

◇ Popcorn

Popcorn was originally an Native American food. The Indians used popcorn as a form in various ways from tribe The first time a European saw popcorn was around Thanksgiving was when the Indian chief's brother, who attended the Thanksgiving dinner, presented it with a bag full of popcorn.

Later, Americans who immigrated from various parts of the world besides Native Americans began to eat popcorn. However, in the 18th century, Americans ate popcorn as a meal, not as a snack.

Popcorn became popular in the late 19th century when the owner of a bakery named Charles Cretter invented a pop corn frying device in 1885.

Another factor that made popcorn a popular snack was the Great Depression of 1929. During this time, it was popcorn that people could eat with ease. It was around this time that I brought popcorn into the movie theater.

About a decade later, when World War II broke out, the popcorn completely occupies the cinema because of sugar.

After Japan seized the Philippines the following year following the raid on Pearl Harbor, sugar imports were completely cut off from the Philippines, which was a major U.S. sugar importer. Hawaii, another sugar supply base, also saw a sharp drop in sugar due to a lack of labor.
( Sugar was the first item the U.S. distributed during World War II.)

The distribution of sugar has led to an unexpected boom in the popcorn industry. It was popcorn that squeezed through this gap in the movie theater. Popcorn was the only snack you could eat when watching a movie to soothe the pain of war. Since then, the movie has changed its culture to eating popcorn and watching it. And as the post-war American culture spread around the world, popcorn became a must-have item for watching movies. War is rather an opportunity for the popcorn industry.
