Lincoln, the President who wrote the soldier's letter.

At the height of the American Civil War, Abraham Lincoln often visited hospitals where wounded soldiers were hospitalized.

On one occasion, doctors guided Lincoln to a young soldier who was badly injured and nearly killed. Lincoln approached the soldier's bedside and asked,

"Is there anything I can do for you?"

It was obvious that the soldier didn't recognize Lincoln. He managed to whisper like this.

"Can you write a letter to my mother?"

As the pen and paper were ready, the president carefully wrote down what the young man said.

"Mother I miss!

I was badly injured while doing my duty. I don't think I'll recover. Even if I leave first, don't be so sad because of me. I think it's an honor for my family to die fighting for my country.

Please kiss my younger brothers John and Mary for me. God bless your mother and father."

The soldier was in low spirits and couldn't continue talking. So Lincoln signed at the end of the letter instead of the young man and added:

"For your son, Abraham Lincoln wrote this letter."

The soldier asked him to show the letter.

He was surprised to find out who wrote the letter for him. asked the soldier.

"Are you really the president?"

Lincoln answered quietly.

"Yes, I am the President."

Then Lincoln asked him if there was anything else he could do.

said the soldier.

"Would you hold my hand? That way, I think I can leave in peace."

In a quiet hospital room, tall and emaciated President Lincoln held the soldier's hand and played the words of warm courage until he died.
