◇ Sea Route Passbook

After the Great Battle of Myeongnyang, which defeated 133 ships with 13 ships in 1597, Yi Sun-shin moved to Gogeum-do and settled down. At the time, 8,000 soldiers were at war and it was very difficult to prepare a military presence while encamped on an island. They could not starve the soldiers or rob the needy people of food. 

Then Yi and his staff came up with the idea. It was a system called  《Sea Route Passbook》. He issued  pass for ships that go on the sea route, and instead tried to feed the soldiers by rolling in grain. 

Depending on the size of the evacuation ship, the large ship was guaranteed three seats of grain, two seats in the middle, and one seat in the small boat, to obtain the passage book, and to ensure passage and fishing activities.

At that time, many refugees were moving along with Admiral Yi Sun-shin, who would protect their lives with his wealth and grain on his boat. They were rather pleased, not burdened or denied, by regulations such as the Haeros Passbook. 

As a result, Admiral Yi was able to secure as many as 10,000 seats in the 10-day period. Also, Yi Sun-shin and his men settled the refugees who followed them on Gogeum Island and nearby islands. The more the island stabilized, the more refugees gathered for safety. Yi Sun-shin secured them by military force and used them as manpower to manufacture the front lines.

◇  疾風勁草

It is only when the strong wind blows that one can tell whether the grass is strong or not. It means that you will know the true worth of a person only after experiencing difficulties and trials.

In the days when the Emperor Gwangmu was being pursued by the rebels, he was impressed by the royal family of his subjects, who protected him until the end, and said, "Only when a strong wind blows, you can recognize the strong grass."

The fate of those who refuse to change their own destiny does not change God either. 

The long-horned bull runs into someone even if it does not want it to.

◇ 해로통행첩

1597년 13척으로 133척을 격파한 명량대첩 후 이순신의 수군은 고금도로 진영을 옮겨 안착했다. 당시 군사는 8천명, 전쟁중이었고 섬에 진을 친 상태에서 군량을 마련하는 것은 매우 어려운 일이었다. 군사들을 굶길 수도 없고, 어려운 백성들에게 식량을 강탈할 수도 없는 노릇이었다. 

그 때 이순신과 그의 참모들은 아이디어를 냈다. <해로통행첩>이라는 제도였다. 바닷길을 다니는 배에 대해 통행증을 발급하고, 그 대신 곡식을 걷어 군사들을 먹여살리려고 한 것이다. 

피난선 크기에 따라 큰 배는 곡식 3석, 중간 배는 2석, 작은 배는 1석의 곡식을 내고 통행첩을 얻고, 통행과 어업 행위를 보장받았다.

당시 많은 피난민들이 자신의 배에 재물과 곡식을 싣고 생명을 지켜줄 이순신의 수군을 따라 이동하고 있었다. 그들은 해로통행첩과 같은 규제에 대해 부담스러워하거나 거부를 한 것이 아니라 오히려 반가워했다. 

그 결과 10일 동안 이순신의 수군은 무려 1만여 석의 군량을 확보할 수 있었다. 또한 이순신과 수군들은 자신들을 따라온 피난민들을 고금도와 인근 섬에 안착시켰다. 섬이 안정될수록 피난민들은 안전을 위해 더욱 몰려들었다. 이순신은 그들을 군사로 확보했고, 전선을 제조할 인력으로 활용했다.

◇ 疾風勁草 (질풍경초)

[사나울 질, 바람 풍, 굳셀 경, 풀 초]

세찬 바람이 불어봐야 비로소 억센 풀인지 아닌지 알 수 있다. 곤란과 시련을 겪어봐야 비로소 그 사람의 진가를 알게 된다는 뜻.

후한 광무제가 반란군에 쫓기던 시절, 끝까지 자신을 지켜주는 신하 왕패에게 감격해 '거센바람이 불어야 억센 풀을 알아볼 수 있구나'라고 한 데서 유래

◇ 말레이시아속담

수면이 잠잠하다고 해서 악어가 살지 않는다고 생각하지 말라.

서로 알지 못하면 사랑할 수 없다.

스스로의 운명을 바꾸려하지 않는 자의 운명은 하나님도 바꾸어 주지 않는다. 

긴 뿔을 가진 황소는 비록 황소 스스로가 원하지 않더라도 누군가와 부딪히게 된다.
