Kindness

◇ Lincoln, make everyone a friend!

President Lincoln was always courteous and kind to those who criticized him and cursed him. 

When his friends advised him that it was foolish to do so, he said, "If you make friends with someone who criticizes me, those who speak ill of me will disappear on their own." 

Lincoln, as a lawyer, praised Stanton as a capable and excellent man despite extreme opposition from his secretaries and encouraged him to serve as defense secretary when he ran for president, who cursed him as "the origin of a mustache and hairy gorilla" and "the great tragedy of the United States if a man like Lincoln was elected president."

Then Stanton, loyal to President Lincoln, swept the battlefields from east to west and north, leading the war to victory. 

Even when Lincoln was shot and assassinated, Stanton was the first to come and embrace him, praising Lincoln as "the greatest statesman in world history." 

Rather than fight with the accuser and cursing, he impressed them and made them friends, and he was a true human being who loved his enemy and showed a sense of tolerance that embraced everyone.
