◇ Chopin's anecdote

The best pianist who was active during the "era of romanticism" was Liszt. He revolutionized piano playing techniques and created the first 'piano solo concert,' which became common today.

Chopin (1810-1849), on the other hand, was almost unknown by the time he entered Paris in 1831.

One day in Paris, when Liszt happened to hear Chopin playing the piano, the two became comrades discussing music together and lived in a house together. However, Chopin was rarely well received.

So Liszt decided to give Chopin a chance through his concert. First, Liszt played the piano beautifully and then turned off all the lights on the stage. The crowd drowned in the sound of the piano and lit the candles on the stage again after the performance. The audience was surprised.

Of course, I thought the performer was a list, but it was Chopin who got up from the chair after finishing the performance.

Chopin's performance was excellent that day, but the friendship of the list, which gave the unknown Chopin a precious opportunity to promote himself, impressed everyone.

Chopin then became a brilliant success, earning recognition for his music.

◇ 쇼팽의 일화

‘낭만주의 시대’ 당시 맹활약했던 최고의 피아니스트는 리스트였다. 그는 피아노 연주기법을 혁신시켰고, 오늘날 보편화된 '피아노 독주회'를 최초로 만들어내기도 했다.

반면, 쇼팽(1810~1849)은 1831년 파리로 진출할 무렵에는 거의 무명에 가까웠다.

어느 날 파리에서 우연히 리스트가 쇼팽의 피아노 연주를 듣게 되면서 두 사람은 함께 음악을 논하는 동지가 되었고 한 집에서 함께 기거하면서 생활하기도 했다. 그러나, 좀처럼 쇼팽은 사람들의 호응을 얻지를 못했다.

그래서 리스트는 자신의 연주회를 통해서 쇼팽에게 기회를 주기로 했다. 먼저, 리스트가 피아노를 멋지게 연주한 다음 무대 위의 조명을 모두 껐다. 관중들은 피아노 소리에 한없이 빠져 들고 연주가 끝난 뒤 다시 무대 위의 촛불을 켰다. 관중들은 깜짝 놀랐다.

연주자가 당연히 리스트라고 생각하고 있었는데 연주를 끝내고 의자에서 일어서는 사람은 쇼팽이었기 때문이다.

그날 쇼팽의 연주 실력도 뛰어났지만 무명의 쇼팽에게 자신을 알릴 수 있는 소중한 기회를 선물한 리스트의 우정이 모든 사람들에게 감명을 주었다.

그 뒤 쇼팽은 음악적 진가를 인정받으며 눈부신 성공을 거두게 된다.
