◇ 처칠이 어느 저녁 모임에 갔는데 회의장 앞에 도착했는데도 차에서 내리지 않자 운전기사가 도착했다고 재차 알렸다.

이것은 평소 그가 “사전에 철저한 준비를 대신해줄 수 있는 것은 아무것도 없다”고 말했던 부분을 뒷받침하는 행동이다.

아무리 ‘훌륭한 즉흥 연설’처럼 보여도 즉흥인 체하는 좋은 연설이 있을 뿐이다.

연극배우들은 공연 직전 실제 상황처럼 처음부터 끝까지 하는 연습공연인 ‘런 스루(run through)’를 며칠 동안 계속한다. 그래야 장면 전환이 자연스러운지 알 수 있기 때문이다.
