Americans see uniforms everywhere and say, "Thank you for your service."

At U.S. airports, you often hear a broadcast saying, "If you have a soldier, get on board first." It is called pre-boarding.

When a soldier is on a plane, an airline employee informs him of it and then expresses gratitude, drawing applause and cheers from passengers. Baseball stadiums and basketball courts often pay homage to veterans by getting them up during breaks.

They benefit first when upgrading airplane seats, pay for soldiers' food at restaurants or give allowance to soldiers on vacation at the airport.

It will be fine if you think of your attitude as reverent at the memorial service, and that you will be sad when you are bereaved.

미국인들은 어디서든 제복을 보면 "Thank you for your service(당신의 봉사에 감사드립니다)"라고 인사한다.

미국 공항에선 “군인이 있으면 먼저 탑승하라”는 방송을 종종 들을 수 있다. 이른바 ‘밀리터리 프리보딩 (pre-boarding, 우선 탑승)’이다.

비행기에 군인이 타면 항공사 직원이 이를 알린 뒤 감사 마음을 전하고, 승객들의 박수와 환호를 끌어내는 일도 흔하다. 야구장, 농구장에선 종종 휴식시간에 베테랑들을 일어나게 해 경의를 표하곤 한다.

비행기 좌석을 업그레이드할 때 우선 혜택을 받기도 하고, 식당에서 장병의 음식값을 대신 지불하는 경우나 공항에서 휴가 가는 군인에게 일면식 없는 할머니가 용돈을 주는 식의 미담도 많다.
