◇ 결혼한 중년 남성만 고용하는 이유

한 작은 도시에 제법 큰 회사가 있었는데, 오로지 결혼한 중년 남성만 고용했다.

이를 못마땅하게 여긴 그 동네 여자들은 회사 사장에게 전화를 걸어 따져 물었다.

“왜 기혼 남성만 고용하는 거죠? 여자가 약해서 인가요? 아니면 다른 이유라도 있나요?”

그러자 사장이 말했다.

“그럴 리가 있나요. 굳이 이유를 말한다면… 결혼한 중년 남자들은 명령을 잘 따르고 혹사당하는데 익숙한 데다, 또 내가 고래고래 소리를 질러도 짜증을 내거나 밖으로 불평을 하지 않는 데 길들어 있기 때문입니다.”
