World Population Day

In 2011, the world's population surpassed 7 billion, and now it has surpassed 7.4 billion.

The world's population is 1.4 billion (18.54 percent), India 1.3 billion (17.74 percent), the U.S. 32 million (4.28 percent), Indonesia (27 million), Brazil (21 million), Pakistan (200 million), Nigeria (199 million Bangladesh (17 million), Russia (14,000), Mexico (130 million), Japan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Egypt and Vietnam.

South Korea's population is 5,100 (as of 2018), and if it were reunified with North Korea (2,600 North Koreans) will be ranked 20th with 7,700 people.

◇ Risk of unity

In 1847, there was a famine in Ireland that killed one million people and displaced three million people to America in a decade, with the population shrinking by half.

 

But it was "potatoes" that caused such a short-term crisis.

 

This is because they have grown only one single species (rumpers) of the best potatoes in defiance of diversity.

 

As the nation’s potatoes were grown as a single breed of "Rumpers," which is highly productive, Rumper, who had no tolerance to the disease, died.

◇ 口蜜腹劍

A word that says that one has honey on one's mouth and a knife on one's stomach, which is likened to being as close as honey on the outside, but inwardly, thinking of being malicious or turning around and slandering.

세계 인구의 날

2011년 세계 인구는 70억 명을 돌파했고 현재는 74억 명을 넘어섰다

세계 인구 수는 중국 14억(18.54%), 인도 13억(17.74%), 미국 3억 2천(4.28%), 인도네시아 2억 7천, 브라질 2억 1천, 파키스탄 2억, 나이지리아 1억 9천 방글라데시 1억 7천, 러시아 1억 4천, 멕시코 1억 3천, 일본, 에티오피아, 필리핀, 이집트, 베트남 순이다.

한국 인구수는 5천 1백여명 (2018년 기준)이고, 만약 북한과 통일 되었을 때를 가정하면 (북한 인구수 2천 6백여명) 7천 7백여명으로 20위까지 순위가 올라간다.


◇ 단일성의 위험

1847년 아일랜드에서는 대기근이 발생해 10년 동안 100만 명이 굶어죽고, 300만 명이 굶주림을 피해서 아메리카로 이주하였는데 인구가 절반으로 감소하는 일이 발생했다.
 
그런데 이런 대기근의 단초를 초래한 것은 바로 '감자'였다.
 
다양성을 무시하고 가장 좋은 감자의 단일품종(럼퍼) 하나만을 재배하였기 때문이다.
 
전국의 감자를 생산량이 우수한 ‘럼퍼’라는 단일품종으로 재배하다보니 감자마름병이라는 전염병이 돌자 내성이 없던 럼퍼는 전국의 씨가 마르게 죽고 말았다.


◇ 구밀복검 (口蜜腹劍)
[蜜 : 꿀 밀, 腹 : 배 복]

입에는 꿀을 바르고 뱃속에는 칼을 품고 있다는 말로, 겉으로는 꿀맛 같이 절친한 척하지만 내심으로는 음해할 생각을 하거나 돌아서서 헐뜯는 것을 비유한 말.
