◇ Lincoln

수많은 책과 어머니가 물려준 성경을 읽고 또 읽으면서 지혜를 얻었으며, 노예해방과 남북전쟁을 승리로 장식했다. 게티스버그 연설등 명연과 명언 그리고 수많은 책을 남긴 미국과 세계에서 가장 위대하고 존경받는 지도자가 되었다.

링컨이 강추위를 견디며 스프링필드를 향해 가고 있었다.

그 때 마침 한 신사의 마차가 뒤에서 다가오자 링컨은 마차를 세운 다음 외투를 벗어 들고는 말했다.

"실례지만 이 외투를 시내까지 좀 가져다 주시겠습니까?"

그러자 신사는 쾌히 승낙했다.

"좋습니다. 그런데 외투는 어떻게 찾아 가시겠습니까?"

링턴이 말했다.

"그 점은 염려마십시오. 이 외투안에는 제가 있을 예정이거든요!"

신사는 너털웃음을 터뜨리며 링컨을 마차에 태워주웠다.
