대체로 가볍게 승낙하는 것은 반드시 믿음성이 적고, 쉬운 것이 많으면 반드시 어려운 것이 많다. 그런 까닭에 성인도 그 쉬운 일을 오히려 어렵게 여긴다. 그러므로 성인은 마침내 어려운 것이 없는 것이다.

쉽다고만 생각하여 시작하면 반드시 뜻하지 않는 난관과 여러가지 어려움에 부딪힐 것이다. 세상의 어려운 일과 큰 일이란 반드시 쉬운 일, 작은 일에서 시작되는 법이기 때문이다.

정성스럽게 되면 겉에 베어 나오고, 겉에 베어 나오면 겉으로 드러나고, 겉으로 드러나면 이내 밝아지고, 밝아지면 남을 감동시키고, 남을 감동시키면 이내 변하게 되고, 변하면 생육된다.
