◇ Holocaust

 The Jews built the Holocaust Remembrance Museum, "Yardbasem," under the initiative of the Israeli Parliament to forever forget the greatest tragedy of Jewish history.

 Yadbasem in Hebrew is "monuments and names" and "remember and celebrate the names." Thus, the Jews are not forgetting their history and reflecting on their mistakes to make history more advanced.

 At the International Holocaust Victims Memorial Day, Steven Spielberg made this statement.

 “Justice moves alive in memory.  It is perhaps the greatest threat of humanity to suppress the accurate history and intentionally forget it.  If we are to be fully human, we must accept the pain of the past head on and take action as we have learned in history. ”

 Not forgetting the past becomes the teacher of the future.

 It does not forget the shame of the past history, and suggests and presupposes the process of guiding the future in the right direction by arranging and leading the situation of one's life and reality.

 In order to properly establish the right direction for our time and the right value for the future, we express that we must serve as a guide to the future through the mirror of history.

◇ 홀로코스트

유대인들은 유대인 역사 최대의 비극을 잊지 않고 후세에 영구히 전하기 위해 이스라엘 국회의 추진으로 홀로코스트 추모 박물관 "야드바셈"을 건립했다.

야드바셈은 히브리어로 "기념물과 이름"으로, "이름을 기억하고 기념하라"로 이처럼 유대인들은 그들의 역사를 잊지 않고 과오를 반성하여 더욱 진일보한 역사를 만들어 가고 있다

과거 국제 홀로코스트 희생자 추모의 날 행사에서 스티븐 스필버그 감독은 이러한 말을 남겼다.

“정의는 기억속에서 살아 움직인다. 정확한 역사를 억압하고, 의도적으로 망각하려는 것은 아마도 인류의 최대 위협이다. 우리가 온전히 사람답게 살려면 과거의 아픔을 정면으로 받아들이고, 역사에서 배운 대로 행동에 옯겨야 한다.”

     前事不忘 後事之師
지난 일을 잊지 않는 것은 뒷일의 스승이 된다.

지난 역사 속의 치욕을 잊지 않고, 확인하고 되새기면서 자신의 삶과 현실의 상황을 정돈하고 이끌어 감으로써 앞으로 다가올 미래를 올바른 방향으로 유도하는 과정에 대한 전제를 제시하고

우리 시대가 나아가야 할 올바른 방향과 지향해야 할 올바른 가치를 제대로 정립하기 위해서 역사의 거울을 통한 미래의 길잡이 역할을 할 수 있도록 해야 함을 표현하고 있다.
