◇ Lee Jun-goo, who spread Taekwondo to the United States (1932 ~ 2018)

 Lee Jun-gu, called Grand Master or Godfather of Taekwondo

 In 1957, he moved to the United States, attended the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas, and in 1962, was painted in the capital, Washington.

 At that time, he called a federal lawmaker who had been robbed and persuaded him to learn that Taekwondo was "not to be robbed." This caused the Taekwondo affairs throughout the United States.

 Later, he set up a Taekwondo hall in the parliament building and taught Taekwondo to over 300 lawmakers.  (Tom Foley, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich,

 In 2000, he was named one of the "203 most successful immigrants in US history," published by the US government.  He taught taekwondo to world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, and he shared martial arts skills with Lee So-ryong, the founder of Tekkwondo and famous actor.

◇ 美에 태권도를 전파한 이준구옹 (1932~2018)

‘그랜드 마스터’ 혹은 ‘태권도의 대부’로 불린 이준구(미국명 준 리)

1957년 미국으로 건너와 텍사스대 토목공학과를 다녔고, 1962년 수도 워싱턴에서 도장을 차렸다.

당시 강도를 당한 연방의원에게 전화를 걸어 "태권도를 배우면 강도를 당하지 않는다"고 설득해 태권도를 배우게 했으며 이 일로 미 전역에 태권도 바람을 일으켰다.

이후 그는 의회의사당 안에 태권도장을 설치하고, 상ㆍ하원 의원 300여 명에게 태권도를 가르치기도 했다. (톰 폴리, 뉴트 깅리치 전 하원의장 등이 그의 제자)

2000년 미 정부가 발표한 ‘미국 역사상 가장 성공한 이민자 203인’의 한 명으로 선정됐으며, 미 초등학교 교과서에 이름이 실리기도 했다. 세계 헤비급 챔피언 무하마드 알리에게 태권도를 가르쳤고, 철권도의 창시자이자 유명 영화배우인 이소룡과는 무술 기술을 서로 전수했다.


◇ 중지성성(衆志成城)

'여러 사람의 뜻이 성(城)을 이룬다'라는 뜻으로 '많은 사람의 뜻이 일치되면 성처럼 견고하게 됨'을 말하며, '모든 사람이 일치단결하면 대단한 힘을 발휘함'을 비유.
